Sand and Cement Floor Screed

Traditional sand and cement screed is our number one. Mixed on site, pumped into place and laid to a dense, level finish, ready for tiles, timber, vinyl or carpet.

Where sand and cement screed works best

It's the go-to floor for most new builds, self-builds and extensions in Ireland. It goes down over insulation, over underfloor heating pipes, or bonded straight onto a concrete slab, and it takes any floor covering once it's dry.

  • New builds and self-builds, ground floor and upstairs
  • Kitchen and living extensions with underfloor heating
  • Renovations where an old floor has been dug out
  • Bonded screed straight onto an existing concrete slab

How we lay it

We pump the screed in, so there's no wheelbarrowing through the house and the mix stays consistent from the first room to the last. Every floor is laser-levelled so the tiler or floorer has a flat base to work on.

Short on time? Ask about our fast dry and fibre reinforced mixes, which are sand and cement screeds with a little extra built in.

Drying times

As a rule of thumb, traditional screed dries about a millimetre a day for the first 40mm, slower after that. You can walk on it the next day. If the floor coverings need to go down quickly, fast dry screed is the answer.

Where we lay sand and cement screed

Questions we get asked

Is sand and cement screed better than liquid screed?

Neither is better for every job. Sand and cement is the all-rounder and suits most houses. Liquid screed is faster to lay over big open areas and flows tight around underfloor heating pipes. We'll tell you which suits your floor at the site visit.

Can you screed over underfloor heating?

Yes. Most of the floors we lay go over underfloor heating, and we make sure the pipes are properly covered at the right depth.

Do you cover my area?

We're based in Portlaoise and lay sand and cement screed all over Laois, Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow and Tipperary.
