Lime Screed and Limecrete Floors
Old stone and solid-wall buildings need to breathe. A lime screed or limecrete floor lets moisture out where a cement floor would trap it in the walls.

Why lime in an old building
Cement floors in old buildings can push damp up into the walls. Lime is breathable, so moisture can escape through the floor instead. It's the traditional way, and it's often what conservation officers ask for.
- Stone cottages and farmhouses
- Period homes and protected structures
- Restorations and renovations of older buildings
- Works with underfloor heating
Supply and fit
We supply and lay lime screed and limecrete floors and can talk you through the build-up for your building. If you have a spec from your architect or conservation officer, we'll work to it.
A recent job: an old stone house where we laid lime screed through every room and hallway, over new underfloor heating, so the house is warm and the walls can still breathe.

Questions we get asked
Can you put underfloor heating in a limecrete floor?
Yes. Limecrete works with underfloor heating, which suits older homes that are slow to heat.
Is limecrete the same as lime screed?
They're related. Limecrete is the lime-based slab, and lime screed is the finishing layer. Many old buildings need both, which we'll explain on site.
